Frequently Asked Questions

  • Lip blush is a specialized technique where advanced pigments are used to enhance the color and shape of the lips. It is a subtle and natural-looking procedure that can add definition, correct asymmetry, and give the lips a more healthy and vibrant appearance. It's an excellent way to achieve a more polished and youthful look for your lips.

The skillful application of lip blush involves an understanding of facial aesthetics, color theory, and the client's individual features to ensure a customized result that complements each person’s unique beauty. At Bon Beaute we always take into consideration the specific goals and needs of each client to craft a set of lips for the most enhanced version of themselves.

The pigments are carefully applied with meticulous precision using single-use needles and tools. The healed results are permanent, gradually fading over time. There has been debate about the term “semi-permenant” and “permanent” make up within the beauty community. Although the pigments gradually fade as our skin naturally sheds and rejuvenates itself, it does not completely disappear. For this reason, we use the term permanent makeup rather than semi-permanent.

Lip blush can significantly enhance your lips by adding definition and improving overall appearance. The procedure allows for:

    • Enhanced Color: Lip blush adds a natural, youthful tint to the lips, bringing out their color and vibrancy. This can be especially beneficial if the client's natural lip color is pale or uneven.

    • Improved Symmetry: Precise application of pigment can address asymmetry issues, creating a more balanced and symmetrical look. This is particularly helpful for clients with unevenly shaped lips.

    • Definition of Lip Borders: Lip blush can define the borders of the lips, making them appear fuller and more well-defined. This is achieved by strategically enhancing the lip line.

    • Subtle Volume: While not a replacement for lip fillers, lip blush can create the illusion of fuller lips by enhancing the natural contours. This is done by shading certain areas to give the appearance of volume.

    • Youthful Appearance: By restoring or enhancing the natural color and shape of the lips, lip blush contributes to a more youthful and refreshed overall facial appearance.

If you resonate with one or more of the things mentioned above then this is the procedure for you!

  • While both services enhance the lips using gentle tattooing techniques, the right service depends on your natural lip tone and your goals.

Lip Blush is ideal for clients with an even-toned lip base who want a soft tint, added shape, and a more defined, youthful look. It’s a great choice if your lips already have a pink or neutral undertone and you’re looking for a “your lips but better” result.

Lip Neutralization is designed for clients with deeper, cool, or uneven pigmentation — often seen in melanin-rich or darker-toned lips. The goal is to balance and correct underlying tones (like purples, blues, or browns) before layering on a desired tint. This process may require multiple sessions to achieve your final color.

If you’re unsure which is best for you, don’t worry — I always assess during your appointment or consultation and guide you toward the treatment that will give you the most beautiful and natural-looking results.

  • Depending on your skin, health and if you come for touchup refreshers, your tattoo will last from 2-5 years.

Here are some factors will cause your semi-permanent tattoo to fade faster:

    • Oily skin

    • Retinol or Vitamin C

    • Iron deficiency

    • Sun exposure

    • Exfoliants

    • Exposure to salt water

For lip blush, touch-up frequencies can vary depending on factors like individual skin type, lifestyle, and the intensity of the desired color. Typically clients may schedule touch-ups every 1 to 2 years to maintain the vibrancy of the lip color and address any fading that naturally occurs. Regular touch-ups help keep the lip blush looking fresh and ensure long-lasting, beautiful results.

  • It is slightly uncomfortable but completely bearable. Prenumb is applied before the tattoo procedure and reapplied throughout. The technique I use is extremely gentle. If you are nervous about pain, you may take 1-2 Tylenol 30 minutes before your appointment. DO NOT take Advil or drink a coffee before your appointment. Coffee and Advil will cause you to bleed lots and also make you more sensitive during the procedure.

  • One of the great things about lip blush is its color customization. The results can be as natural or as bold and vibrant as you desire. I always customize color formulas to best suit each client’s end goal, lifestyle, and features.

For clients who are nervous about choosing the “right color” for their lips I always start conservative by using a color that is very similar to their natural lip color. It is always easier to add than to subtract in the world of permanent makeup. If when healed you want a more vibrant or noticeable change, we can layer more color at the touch up.

  • A cold sore is a group of tiny, painful blisters caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). They often appear yellow or green and form an open wound. They are painful! The lip blush procedure can trigger a cold sore breakout.

Only those with the herpes simplex virus can get cold sores, however, some clients do not know that they carry the virus. That is why I recommend every client to take antiviral medication to prepare for the procedure! You can get a prescription from your primary care physician or clinic and follow their instructions to prevent a cold sore outbreak.

Cold sores can appear anywhere from 1 day after the procedure to day 10. The best thing to do if your client breaks out is to advise them to go see a doctor or go to a local pharmacist and buy some ointment. Depending on how bad the breakout is, cold sores can leave scars and affect the healed result of the tattoo.

  • Contraindications for lip blush, or any cosmetic tattooing procedure, are conditions or circumstances that may make the treatment risky or unsuitable for an individual. Here are common contraindications for lip blush:

    • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: It's generally advised to avoid cosmetic tattooing during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to potential hormonal changes and uncertainties about the impact on the unborn or nursing child.

    • Blood Disorders: Conditions such as hemophilia or other blood clotting disorders may increase the risk of excessive bleeding during the procedure.

    • Immunosuppression: Individuals with compromised immune systems, whether due to medical conditions or medications, may have a higher risk of complications.

    • Recent Cosmetic Treatments: Recent procedures such as botox or dermal fillers in the lip area might require waiting for some time before having a lip blush to avoid interference with the healing process. Please wait 4 weeks after any of these treatments.

    • History of Keloid Scarring: Those with a history of keloid scarring may be at an increased risk of abnormal scarring after the procedure.

It's crucial to discuss with your primary care physician about any potential contraindications before proceeding with the lip blush or any other cosmetic tattooing. If there are concerns or uncertainties, it's advisable to consult with a healthcare professional.
